Our Results

Why our results matter
Vincenzo Maurino offers a perfect combination of experience, expertise and great results to all of his patients. Patients feel safe in his hands because of his unrivalled surgical expertise and professionalism. They also greatly appreciate the opportunity of being treated at one of the most renown and largest eye hospitals in the world. Above all, patients commend the caring and professional service that he provides. We think it’s important that all of our patients have the chance to meet their surgeon at the consultation, not just on the day of treatment. Mr Maurino will go through the results of your eye tests with you and will advise you as to the treatment most appropriate for you.
Laser eye surgery techniques LASIK and LASEK are available to reduce or eliminate the need for spectacles in most patients with a stable prescription. For younger patients, good distance vision in both eyes is usually the aim. For patients in their mid-40s and above, a compromise known as BLENDED monovision (in which better distance/intermediate vision is targeted in one eye and better near/intermediate vision in the other) is usually employed to minimise spectacle dependence over a range of activities.
Lower prescriptions (in the range +4.00 to maximum -9.00D) are, when possible, corrected using laser techniques (LASIK or LASEK) to reshape the cornea. Astigmatism and age are also influential in determining the most appropriate technique. For prescriptions outside the above range (more than +4.00 or more than -9.00), the most appropriate procedures are based on implanting a new artificial lens, either as an add-on lens (ICL – intraocular contact lens) in young patients, or in older patients (above the age of 50) an operation identical to modern cataract surgery but called refractive lens exchange (RLE) can be performed. If you fall in any of the above categories, we will provide you with a detailed explanation of why we don’t recommend laser surgery and you will be given extensive explanations on the procedure you are most suitable for.
