Patients feel no pain because we use anaesthetic in the form of liquid eye drops. When one drop of anaesthetic goes onto the surface of the eye, patients should not feel pain for the next 20 minutes. Patients may feel eye pressure during surgery, which is normal, and not painful. After surgery, patients may feel mild discomfort or irritation. Because discomfort can occur in some patients during the healing phase of some of the procedures we perform, pain relief medication in eye drop form is provided as part of after surgery treatment to help removes this pain when necessary.
There is a fee for the consultation appointment and a fee for the eye surgery procedure and treatment plan. For more information about consultation and surgical fees please contact us.
This will depend on several factors that Mr. Maurino will take into account when you come in for your consultation and assessment. Learn more about eye surgery treatments offered by Mr. Maurino. Request a consultation booking.
If  you take your eyesight seriously, you will want the best eye surgeon.
Royal College of Ophthalmologists awards a ÂCertificate of Competence after a surgeon has demonstrated Âexpertise in laser eye surgery. We believe that you should choose a surgeon with formal training in laser eye surgery  (holds a diploma of fellowship in refractive surgery) and has performed at least 500 eye laser operations.    Mr. Maurino has over 10 years of experience in advanced eye surgery techniques and vision research at world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital, where he treats patients using the most advanced femtosecond laser and lens technologies. He has performed over 25,000 eye surgical procedures including: LASIK, LASEK, cataract surgery, implantable contact lens surgery and corneal transplant surgery. He holds the Certificate of competency in Laser Vision Correction for the Royal College Of Ophthalmologists of England and has completed a two years specialised training (fellowship) in cornea and laser vision correction. Mr Maurino’s expertise goes well beyond laser vision surgery and therefore he is the best to advise patients seeking vision corrective surgery. See our Top 10 Reasons to Choose Vincenzo Maurino as London’s Best Eye Surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
A patient contacts us for treatment and books a consultation that lasts about 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on the treatment requested and its complexity. During the consultation appointment, Mr. Maurino will evaluate if the patient is suitable for eye surgery and, together with his experienced team, will run diagnostic tests to determine the best treatment for the patient.  In addition to specifying the procedure, a pre- and post-operative care plan is advised
Including  in the treatment fees which will become payable when the surgery is booked.  Patients should carefully read and follow the comprehensive instructions on preparation and aftercare appropriate to their chosen procedure.
The majority of our surgical procedures require minutes to be performed and Mr. Maurino talks you through the procedure making you feel at ease. On the day of the surgery, his team will prepare you for the surgery which generally takes 10-20 minutes though this can vary according to the procedure you are having.
This depends on the eye surgery treatment you have, but it can range from one to a few days. You must always follow the aftercare plan advised by Mr. Maurino.
Mr. Maurino will advise at your first aftercare appointment following the eye surgery if your eyes meet the legal minimum standard of vision for driving. However, after LASIK, Refractive Lens Exchange and Implantable Contact Lens Surgery most patients are able to drive within 48 hours.
You can apply makeup to your face 72 hours after surgery, but avoid eye-makeup for five days after your laser eye surgery.
You should follow the after surgery care advised by Mr. Maurino, but other recommendations include: try not to touch or rub your eye, keep soap and shampoo out of your eyes for a few days, do not swim for two weeks after surgery, and avoid playing contact sports for two weeks following surgery if there’s a risk that you may get knocked in the eye.
