Vincenzo Maurino receives special honour

Mr Vincenzo Maurino, consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded one of Italy’s highest honours at a special ceremony at the Italian Embassy in London

Mr Maurino was presented with the Ordine della Stella d’Italia (Order of the Star of Italy) by the Italian ambassador, Pasquale Terracciano. 

Mr Maurino is now officially a Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy, who was awarded the honour in recognition of his outstanding contribution to ophthalmology. The award is the Italian equivalent to honours given by Her Majesty the Queen in her birthday honours list. Vincenzo is an recognised Italian citizens who have distinguished themselves abroad.

Commenting on his award Mr Maurino said:

“It is a great honour for me to receive this award from the Italian Ambassador Pasquale Terracciano, to whom I am sincerely grateful. Whilst I am very proud, I am also mindful of the great responsibility that comes with this title”
